The Premier League weekend starts this evening, with Newcastle hosting Leeds at St. James’ Park.
It’s been a difficult start to the new season for both sides, with neither having won yet. But while Leeds have lost to Manchester United and Liverpool, teams in the top three last season, the Magpies have been defeated by Aston Villa and West Ham as well as United.
On top of that, Steve Bruce’s side have conceded 12 league goals this season, more than any other side in the division.
We think Leeds have more going for them, particularly with Newcastle’s main striker, Callum Wilson, being injured. The Yorkshire side won both meetings between these two teams last term, and we look for them to continue the winning streak.
Patrick Bamford has scored one goal already this season, and looked a constant threat against Liverpool last time out, even in defeat.
Nobody had more headed shots in the Premier League than Bamford last season, and we think the 12/1 available that he scores with his head against a porous Newcastle defence offers value.
