This afternoon sees one of the Premier League’s elite fixtures, as Manchester United host Liverpool.
The last time these two teams clashed was in May, with Liverpool winning 4-2 at Old Trafford. And it’s probably fair to say that both sides have looked more impressive going forward this season – United’s games have averaged 3.2 goals a game and Liverpool’s 3.9.
Traditionally these have been tight encounters, but with United missing their best defender in Varane and Liverpool‘s approach to always be in the front foot, there could be goals today.
Mohamed Salah has scored in each of his side’s last six league matches, and registered three goals in two appearances at Old Trafford last season. We’ll take a punt that the Egyptian star scores a brace this afternoon.
Earlier in the day sees West Ham take on Tottenham in what could also be a fiery encounter.
The Hammers got a really good win at Everton last week while Tottenham’s revival continued at Newcastle, making this a very difficult game to predict.
That said, we noted with interest that Spurs rested their midfield starters in Europe midweek, meaning they will be fresh today.
Tanguy Ndombele has been growing in influence this season, scoring last weekend to finish off Newcastle. He has had seven efforts at goal this season and the emergence of holding midfielder Oliver Skipp has given him more licence to get forward.
We’ll take a chance that the Frenchman gets on the scoreboard this afternoon.
