Saturday Yankee: Hollow promises…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  The Hollow Ginge, (1430 Cheltenham), 1pt win, 12/1:

This could be run at a ferocious pace with a host of front runners in opposition.  That could open things up for something more patiently ridden and The Hollow Ginge makes appeal for  a local trainer who does so well here at this time of year.  This horse has an excellent record fresh with his seasonal debut form reading 3121U.  That U last year was at the first and his first run of consequence was thus his 4th in the Ladbroke.  Has a 27lb pull with winner Cloth Cap.  May be worth risking his run on non-completions in marathon races as better ground, a shorter trip and a seasonal debut looks much more his mix.

Another Batt, (1405 Doncaster), 13/2:   Ibiza Rocks has a strong chance in last time out Ascot form but this could be the day for Another Batt.  The David Barron trained 6yo has a distinctive profile winning occasionally but decisively and often when the money is down collecting on all four times he has been favourite.  He may not quite head this market but he has attracted plenty of support and should relish these conditions and course.

Tobefair, (1605 Cheltenham), 14/1:  there are two ways to interpret this veteran’s abject efforts in two Newton Abbot runs.  It is plausible that he has gone at the game after a career of hard fought efforts and is sliding to retirement.  The other view is that he would hate that track and that a return to his favourite course can rekindle the flame that saw him competitive in a Stayers Hurdle here in 2020 and running well here off a mark of 151 last Autumn.  Down to just 135 after stinking out Devon, he may just be worth risking now he is back in the Cotswolds.

Be Proud, (1620 Doncaster), 33/1:  a typically competitive end of season sprint and the consistent Be Proud may have been overlooked at a huge price.  Runs plenty of races at longer trips but does his winning over this 5f.  This is a track that should suit and the race should be run ideally for him.  He has a couple of lengths to find on favourite Boundless Power on recent Ascot form but a 4lb pull and this track should make that much closer than the odds suggest.
