NFL: Allen holds the key…

The NFL post-season starts this evening, with the Cincinnati Bengals hosting the Las Vegas Raiders in the first game of the playoffs.

The Raiders enter the game on the back of four straight wins, including an explosive match against the Los Angeles Chargers, in which they scored a field goal as the overtime clock expired to secure a wild card berth. They now face a Bengals side that has been playing out of its skin in the past few weeks, including beating the Kansas City Chiefs, one of the AFC’s most feared teams.

We fancy the Bengals to win this one, but we note that both sides have relied much more heavily on the pass game of late, with Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow throwing for an outrageous 971 passing yards in his past two games, for example. With this in mind, the 13/2 on offer from SkyBet that both quarterbacks, Burrow and Derek Carr of the Raiders, throw for over 300 yards seems like value.

The late game in the early hours of Sunday sees the Buffalo Bills host the New England Patriots at what is expected to be a cold and windy Highmark Stadium.

Temperatures are forecast to drop to an Arctic-like minus 15 Celsius in Buffalo, while a steady breeze may mean it feels even colder than that. This will make throwing the ball tricky. Additionally, the pair are also the best two defences in terms of points allowed, and thus we’re looking for a low-scoring game.

The idea of a low number of touchdowns makes betting on the first TD scorer more attractive. Bills quarterback Josh Allen have already rushed for 6 TDs this season, and we’ll take a punt that he opens the scoring tonight with his legs.

Bengals/Raiders: Both quarterbacks to throw for over 300 yards, 1 pt, at 13/2, SkyBet

Bills/Patriots: Allen to score first TD, 1 pt, at 10/1, Ladbrokes
