The PGA Tour players tee it up at the Wells Fargo Championship this week, with TPC Potomac taking over as the host course from Quail Hollow for one year, as the latter is being prepped for the Presidents Cup in September.
Rory McIlroy is the defending champion, but we’re reluctant to take single figures given the change of venue, with the tight, fiddly, par-70 layout in Maryland probably not to his liking.
Instead we’re going to side with Corey Conners. The Canadian is usually very accurate from tee to green, the likely recipe for success at TPC Potomac. Last time out, he finished 12th in the Heritage, and he has played this course before, coming 41st in the 2018 Quicken Loans. However, he was 340th in the world rankings then, as opposed to world number 31 this time around.
Across the pond, the Belfry course in Sutton Coldfield, England hosts the British Masters.
Former U.S. Masters champion Danny Willett is hosting the event with Ryder Cup legend Lee Westwood helping out, but it’s to the continent that we’re looking for our tip.
Adrian Meronk appears to be on the verge on a DP World Tour breakthrough. The Polish star took a month off after finishing third in the Qatar Masters at the end of March and made an understandably slow start on his return to action last week. However, he finished strongly to claim third place, and we think this sets him up nicely for this week.
Wells Fargo: Conners to win, 1 pt, at 20/1, bet365
British Masters: Meronk to win, 1 pt, at 25/1, bet365
0.5 pts each way double
