NAP OF THE DAY: Chiefofchiefs, (1605 Ascot), 14/1, 1pt each way
Godolphin’s One Ruler could be the blot on the handicap here stepping down in class but we prefer to look at two course lovers. Fresh has a great record here but isn’t certain to like the 7th furlong, whilst Chiefofchiefs should relish it as a course and distance winner and a habitual late finisher over 6f. His high draw could be ideal too.
HMS President, (1345 Ascot), 8/1: was knocking on the door often last year without quite getting his nose in front. Has run really well at this track in the past and should be much fitter than his reappearance run. Should go well for his good claiming jockey.
Bronson In Blue, (1425 Haydock), 11/1: backing Irish runners in major UK handicap hurdles has been a crude but effective ploy for much of the season. This veteran may not have the scope of some of these to improve, but he has been in excellent form of late and this may not take too much winning.
Miss Heritage, (1500 Haydock), 22/1: Showed massively improved form to land a decent Donny race last time. That form would have her miles ahead of Anna Bunina, although that rival has undoubtedly improved since. She remains hard to fathom having hinted at better in the past and simply looks a huge price in a below average edition of the race.
