NAP OF THE DAY: Golden Flame, (1400 Haydock), 1pt win, 12/1:
A decent little staying handicap and at a course that can favour prominent racers it could be worth risking front runner Golden Flame. He made all to win here at the end of last season and there was plenty to like about his comeback run at Newmarket. With the canny veteran Joe Fanning on board he could just lead these a merry dance if allowed his own way.
Alligator Alley, (1455 York), 9/2: has been disappointing for a long time since a good winner here as a 2yo, but showed signs of improvement when a good fourth here last time in a race that was probably a fair bit better than this one. Entitled to still improve as he settles at his new yard and is drawn to track the pace and pounce.
Winter Power, (1545 Haydock), 7/4: one of the best 5f sprinters in Europe last year and deadly on a quick track. Has her conditions here, escapes a penalty for her Group 1 success and blitzes her opposition on debut last season. Should probably be odds on.
Justcallmepete, (1630 Haydock), 11/4: from a yard that does well with sprinters and with the returning genius of apprentice De La Sayette in the saddle claiming an outrageous 5lbs. Might have won with any kind of clear run at Ascot last time and can get compensation here.
