Saturday Yankee: Fortune can favour the Brave..

The Daily Yankee:

NAP OF THE DAY:  Island Brave, (1530 Newcastle), 1pt each way,  18/1 (7 places, Hills):

Top notch stayer Trueshan has it all to do under. Massive weight but showed last year that he will contend, whilst Uber Cool is an interesting one on reappearance for an in form yard.  That said, old veteran Island Brave could be the one for a close look.  He has run in this twice with a 5th and a 3rd and disappointing recent form figures can be forgiven as he has been bigger than 20/1 in his last 6 runs, the latest of which at Ascot showed a glimmer of promise.  Drawn well, slipping down the weights, and with a hugely valuable 5lb claim he looks a really solid each way shout.

Strike Red, (1350 Newcastle), 7/2:    Few of these have winning form at 6f and even fewer at this track. Strike Red has two course and distance wins, remains on a decent rating, and was a close 4th on a mass finish at Hamilton last time.  Should go close under conditions which are sure to suit.

Mondammej, (1425 Newcastle), 33/1: could be a good bet if he refuses to enter the stalls as he did last time at Ascot.  Always a bit quirky but undoubtedly talented.  Can run well especially if they go fast up front and play into his late closing style and is probably overpriced in this company.

Geremia, (1445 Newcastle), 7/1:  old blog favourite Smart Champion is sorely tempting here and should place at least, but recent rivals Evaluation and Geremia hold stronger claims and although Geremia has seen his rival’s backside in both recent clashes, a weight pull and this stiffer test can see a reversal of that form.
