The regular PGA Tour is coming to a close this season, with the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina hosting the Wyndham Championship, the last tournament before the FedEx Cup playoffs.
We’re going to side with Si Woo Kim this week. The Korean has a love affair with this event – his maiden PGA Tour title came in the 2016 Wyndham, then he was fifth in 2019, third in 2020, before losing in a six-man playoff last year.
He has suffered from injuries this year, but finished 15th place in the Open Championship at St Andrews and 14th in the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Sunday, thus he appears to be healthy now. At around 25/1, and with his outstanding record at this course, we think he represents excellent each-way value.
In Europe, the DP World Tour visits Wales, with the Celtic Manor course hosting the Cazoo Open.
Jordan Smith is the favourite with most bookmakers, as he has had a very consistent season. That said, he is winless for more than five years and we’ll look elsewhere given his short price.
Instead we’re going to take a punt on Matti Schmid. The big-hitting German is waiting for his maiden PGA Tour title, having made his his professional debut at Celtic Manor last year. He has since risen more than 600 places in the world rankings, and we think this former amateur star can win in this company.
Wyndham Championship: Kim 1 pt each way at 25/1, 1/5 the odds for the first 8 places, William Hill
Cazoo Open: Schmid 0.5 pts each way at 33/1, 1/4 the odds for the first five places, bet365
