Premier League: Troublesome Toney…

This Premier League Saturday starts at Villa Park as Aston Villa take on Everton.

Both teams got off to losing starts to the new season, and the mood surrounding both sides over the past few weeks hasn’t been overly positive.

Everton’s away record is terrible – they have lost 13 of their last 17 league road trips – and they were predictably toothless against Chelsea last weekend. That suggests a Villa win, but the hosts were also very poor in losing 2-0 at Bournemouth.

This game could be combative in midfield, but both look weak up front so we’re minded to side with a draw today (and those minded to take greater odds could take a goalless draw).

The late game sees Manchester United travel south to take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The new season started with a degree of optimism at Old Trafford, a new manager had arrived and preseason results had been largely impressive – that mood lasted less than 90 minutes as they were outplayed by a Brighton side coming to terms with the loss of star players Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella.

United still lack a clear method and style of play, and defensively they still look far too open – something that the hosts can take advantage of after they came back from a two goal deficit to draw 2-2 at Leicester last Sunday.

Ivan Toney got off the mark last weekend, and we think he could cause Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire a lot of trouble. We’ll take him to open the scoring this evening.

Aston Villa/Everton: A draw, 1 pt, at 5/2, bet365

Brentford/Man United: Toney to score first, 1 pt, at 6/1, William Hill
