European Golf: Let Lowry loose…

The focus of the golfing world is centered on Wentworth this week, with the famed West Course hosting the BMW PGA Championship, one of the premiere titles on the DP World Tour.

A lot of attention will be on the potential of a LIV golfer winning a non-LIV event, with a number of rebel players taking advantage of a legal stay of execution to tee up. That said, the players who have chosen to stay loyal to the established tours will be very motivated to win this event.

One such player is Shane Lowry. The Irishman has played well all season and can count himself unlucky not to have claimed a victory this year. He missed out on the Tour Championship by one spot, which means he has had a longer break to freshen up for one of his favourite tournaments.

He finished fourth in 2011, runner-up in 2014, sixth in 2015 and sixth in 2017 – as part of nine top-20s from 12 BMW PGA starts. His straight driving is a plus around this tight course, and we’ll take a punt this is his year.

Our each-way selection is Justin Rose. The Englishman lives close to Wentworth and practises regularly there. He finished tied 6th last year, and hopefully has recovered from the back issues which meant he missed the Open. Those issues mean he’s a hefty price, and we’ll take a punt.

Recommendations:

Lowry to win, 1 pt, at 16/1, bet365

Rose 0.5 pts each way at 60/1, 1/4 the odds for the first 6 places, bet365
