Saturday Yankee: Fresh thinking at Ascot…

The Daily Yankee:

NAP OF THE DAY:  Fresh, (1536 Ascot), 2pts win, 5/1:

It is a short enough price for one of these big Ascot 7f handicaps, but we know he loves them having won the last two.  Remarkably has gone up 4lbs and then 1lb for those two big field wins.  Whilst that reflects narrow margins of victory, it also gives him a excellent chance of going in again and we thought his win last time was narrow but more convincing than the margin suggests.

King’s Lynn, (1351 Ascot), 5/1:  Manaccan is the up and comer here but with rain likely to make this testing, old stagers Tie Marvellous and King’s Lynn are preferred.  We love old Tis on this track but whilst he is a good consistent trier it’s King’s Lynn who has the higher ceiling performance.  Not as consistent but quality on his day and soft ground makes his day more likely than not.

Rohaan, (1500 Ascot ), 3/1:  there have been a few isolated incidents of us not napping Summerghand in the last two years – once was when he won the Stewards Cup last year, and more lately when he won the Ayr Gold Cup last time.  Criminal neglect on our part and we may extend the rap sheet here, but Group level races are a different problem, and on this course and crucially on this ground it should much more to Rohaan’s liking.

Dream Composer, (1645 Ascot), 10/1:  has been in decent form all year without quite reaching the heights of his unlucky run in a big sprint on this track at last year’s Royal Meeting.  Now gets track and ground to suit, goes well for a claimer, and looks handily priced to get slow burning compensation.
