The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Our Power, (1515 Ascot), 1pt win, 9/2:
This valuable race may not be quite as hot a contest as it looks at first glance. Our Power is one of the few bringing top recent credentials to the table having been place in the Coral Trophy and then again at the Cheltenham festival. Looks well in on those runs and this could be the ideal time to catch him.
Washington, (1405 Ascot),6/1: trainer Olly Murphy is in typical flying early season form and it could be worth trusting the lightly raced Washington. He stayed fairly low key last season until taking a dip in the deep at Aintree in his final run. He was an excellent third there when he might arguably have done even better. His mark of 128 is undoubtedly generous and he can prove that here in seasonal debut.
Monsieur Lecoq, (1440 Ascot ), 8/1: As narrowly pipped in this race last year. That came shortly after a dismal reappearance run, and trainer Jane Williams has made sure he comes here off the back of another pipe-opener where his 4th of 5 at Chepstow wasn’t as bad as it sounds. Loves these conditions and this is surely the target off a decent weight.
Cubanista, (1708 Newmarket), 25/1: we aren’t completely forgetting about the flat season. A tricky Newmarket card closes with a cavalry charge and it could be worth risking a pick. Cubanista has a lifetime best on soft ground a few runs ago and so any rain would improve his chances. Looks significantly overpriced…
