NFL: Chief is no one-trick-Toney…

Down to the last eight, and Divisional Round Saturday sees the two rested number one seeds hosting huge underdogs.

First up are the Kansas City Chiefs aiming to repeat their regular season win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chiefs are notoriously strong off a rest week and at the raucous Arrowhead Stadium they could be far too much for a banged up Jacksonville team.

Often lethal on their first possession, a Chief to open the touchdown scoring looks a good bet. Whilst Travis Kelce and Jerrick McKinnon are prolific for the home team, on early drives it’s more likely that coach Andy Reid will look to either bash it home with Isiah Pacheco or use a tricky jet-sweep play from the elusive Kadarius Toney, and Toney looks particularly good value at 12/1 as he is also a deep threat option for MVP-elect wizard Patrick Mahomes.

The later game sees NFC top-dogs the Philadelphia Eagles host regular rivals the New York Giants. The Eagles are hard to read as their early season form certainly merits the wide spread favouritism, but their end of season form was less compelling with a key injury to Lane Johnson on the offensive line and QB star Jalen Hurts. Both are back, and the word is that Hurts will be used to full effect having returned last time with a limited playbook.

That is the key betting angle, as a fit Hurts using both designed rush and scramble plays is a huge scoring threat even without allowing for the Eagles trademark QB sneak/rugby scrum for goal line plays, and hence good value to the first man to “take it to the house”.
