The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Punctuation, (1610 Cheltenham), 2pts win, 4/1:
A rapid improver who showed he can graduate to these grade 1 tracks when a cosy winner here last time. An 8lb rise looks tough at first glance but the handicapper would have seen the full promise of the late surge that saw him draw clear here last time. The O’Brien stable can really improve a horse once they have it going the right way and this fella could easily be back here in March having maintained the winning sequence.
Jupiter Du Gite, (1140 Cheltenham), 11/4: an early start for Cheltenham’s big Trials day and this Triumph Hurdle trial can stay at home. Comfort Zone is a little behind the best of the Irish and his Chepstow win wasn’t compelling. Jupiter Du Gite was a surprise winner on English debut at Newbury but there was no fluke about pummelling older horses with a dashing front running display. He jumps well and can have this lot in trouble from a long way out.
Protektorat, (1425 Cheltenham ), 7/4: unless Ahoy Senor finds his best then this should be a match. Whilst respecting National hero Noble Yeats, the form of his 9th here in March is well below that standard. That same week, Protektorat was finishing third in the Gold Cup. That is the stand out form and it is a surprise he is odds against and so can’t be missed as a banker leg to the Yankee.
Paisley Park, (1412 Cheltenham), 7/4: Hugely popular veteran who has won this race three times in the past including last year. Despite hitting senior citizen status he has been as good this year as at any time since his dominant youth. This field looks his for the taking and he can rack up the grand slam in this event.
