Premier League: Ride with Rashford…

The main clash of Sunday’s Premier League program comes from Anfield, as Liverpool host arch rivals Manchester United.

United are playing with the sort of confidence Liverpool showed last season but abruptly disappeared, earning 23 points since the World Cup – no side has won more points during this period. They have won the Carabao Cup, are still in the FA Cup and and their Europa League campaign continues next Thursday with a quarter-final clash at home to Real Sociedad.

A win this afternoon would continue their title challenge, as well as severely dent their hosts’ chances of Champuons League football next season.

That said, Liverpool have shown some signs of stabilization of late, excluding the Real Madrid clash in the Champions League, with four clean sheets in their last five Premier League games. Additionally, the Reds have actually been quite good at home, with only the top three in the league having picked up more points in front of their own supporters.

Liverpool really need the three points today, probably more than United, and this could make them vulnerable to the counterattack as they press forward, particularly against the pace of Marcus Rashford. The United striker has scored 10 goals in his last 10 Premier League games, netting in each of his last five appearances, and we’ll take him to score the opening goal today.

If things do start to go against the home team, the one person that will take that very personally is captain Jordan Henderson. The Liverpool midfield has been subject to much criticism this season, most of it justified, and Henderson will be keen to stamp his authority on the game. This could result in him seeing yellow at some point, and we’ll take 9/2 that he does so.

Recommendations:

Rashford to score first goal, 1 pt, at 5/1, Paddy Power

Henderson to be booked, 1 pt, at 9/2, SkyBet
