PGA Tour: Thomas to conquer Sawgrass…

The PGA Tour stays in Florida this week, and heads to the famed TPC Sawgrass course for the Players Championship.

The top three golfers in the world line up again, with the status of the no. 1 player in the world up for grabs.

Jon Rahm started very well last week, but finished poorly at Bay Hill and may be feeling tired after a busy period. Scottie Scheffler has never made an impact at Sawgrass, while Rory McIlroy won here in 2019, suggesting he may be the one to side with. However, a single figure price is short for a player whose last win on the PGA Tour was in June last year.

Instead we’re going to side with Justin Thomas, who won this event in 2021 and is the same price now. JT loves this course, which encourages accurate iron play, and has the best Sawgrass scoring average in this field. We’ll be on his side.

Our each way bet has a familiar sound – Keith Mitchell. The American has played well over the last two tournaments without quite placing, and he enjoys playing in Florida. He carded a 68 in the abandoned 2020 Players, then closed with a 69 for 13th place last year.

Recommendations:

Thomas to win, 1 pt, at 22/1, BetVictor

Mitchell 0.5 pts each way at 50/1, 1/5 the odds for the first 10 places, Paddy Power
