Premier League: Van Dijk to strike…

The Premier League weekend starts at the Vitality Stadium, as Bournemouth entertain Liverpool.

The Reds come into the clash fresh of their 7-0 demolition of arch rivals Manchester United, and will be looking to continue their recent resurgence as a fourth spot is clearly within reach.

Bournemouth have conceded 51 goals this season, comfortably the most in the league, and shipped nine in the reverse fixture at Anfield earlier in the season. This tends to suggest to us that they will defend deep and try to catch Liverpool on the break.

Liverpool are thus likely to have a lot of the ball, and should win plenty of attacking set-pieces. With quality delivery assured, Virgil van Dijk could pose a threat. The giant central defender has scored three times in 21 league appearances, so odds of 10/1 offer value.

The late game sees Crystal Palace host defending champions Manchester City at Selhurst Park.

City haven’t been at their fluent best this season, but they know they have to keep on winning if they want to catch Arsenal at the top of the table and retain their crown.

Palace won’t make it easy, but they have taken just five points from their nine games in 2023. And in Phil Foden, City have a player bang in form. The young midfielder can score in four successive Manchester City appearances in all competitions for the first time, and needs one league goal to reach a career-best 10 in a season. We think he’ll get it, if he plays!

Recommendations:

Bournemouth/Liverpool: van Dijk to score anytime, 1 pt, at 10/1, William Hill

Crystal Palace/Man City: Foden to score anytime, 1 pt, at 7/2, Unibet
