Saturday Yankee: Story time in Scottish National…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:   Your Own Story, (1535 Ayr), 2pts win, 8/1:

Relatively lightly raced and represents last week’s Grand National winning team.  Probably had this as a target all season for the local yard and has never looked better than when heading over marathon trips on his last two runs.  Monbeg Genius and Malina Girl look the credible dangers, but the featherweight being carried by this fella can be decisive.

Pay The Piper, (1315 Ayr), 6/1:  a short price favourite to beat as well as a decent long shot in Elixir De Nuts.  Pay The Piper was well fancied for a top quality Aintree handicap last week but lost position with some slow jumping before staying on really well up the straight.  Another long straight here should suit if he can only be a fraction more fluent in the first half of the race.

Highway One O Two, (1425 Ayr), 12/1:  lots to like in this race with past winners Milkwood  and Anna Bunina likely contenders, as is regular big handicap presence Soarimg Glory and our beloved Colonel Mustard.  That said the race could set up perfectly for the Highway who could run loose off the front of the race.  Very hard to pass when on a rhythm as he showed at Ascot earlier in the year, and could find himself making all the running.  Ran with credit in two huge handicaps at Newbury and Cheltenham despite not being able to lead and can spring a surprise here.

Unexpected Party, (1500 Ayr), 7/1: has looked like a horse being prepped for a handicap and it was a surprise to see him instead at Grade 1 level last time at Cheltenham.  On that running he has the measure of the market leader here and it will be fun watching jockey Bridget Andrews timing his effort.
