The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Biggles, (1440 Ascot), 2pts win, 12/1:
A huge field in which trainer George Boughey has the ace cards in his hand. That said, like many of the market leaders, his pair are drawn middle to low. It’s hard to be definitive, but high draws can do well if the ground rides soft. Biggles is closely matched with the market leaders but gets the stand side rail draw in stall 23. If that is an advantage then he should be a much shorter price as he looks sure to run a big race.
Nathaneal Greene, (1330 Ascot), 7/2: lightly raced promising staying handicapper for an elite yard. Tend to do very well with this age group and this fella looked for all the world last year as though he would improve mightily for another year of maturing. May have a future over a longer trip and this looks a starting point for the 14f race here at the Royal meeting. Even so, he could well have enough in hand to win at this minimum trip for him and is one we want to keep very much on our side.
Gentleman At Arms, (1335 Haydock), 16/1: went close when we tipped him at a huge price in an Aintree Grade 1 last year. Chasing wasn’t a success and a return to hurdles didn’t look too good at first either but there was much more to like when a close 4th at Warwick last time. These look just his conditions, he has slipped nicely down the weights and the yard is firing. The big odds have already been hoovered up, but there is still juice to be squeezed.
Byker, (1515 Haydock), 5/1: One of our Cheltenham near misses when just touched off in the Boodles. Has been generously left unchanged for that effort and looks significant that his Uber-shrewd Irish trainer has missed possible appointments close to home at Fairyhouse and Punchestown to travel over instead for a test at a track that he must think will suit this strapping youngster.
