Saturday Yankee: Take a Flyer…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:   Bedford Flyer, (1440 York), 2pts win, 13/2:

Korker, Bedford Flyer and Mondammej filled the places here a couple of weeks ago and should hold the key here today.  Korker placed best, and is the best of the three, but his habitual slow starts is a tactical nightmare here, whilst those of us all too familiar with Mondammej know he is a tactical nightmare everywhere.  Bedford Flyer in contrast just blasts and goes, with no tactical concerns.  His third here last time was his first run for his sprint specialist new stable, and the quicker ground today just helps emphasise his early speed and could help him lead the whole way.

Maywake, (1335 York), 11/2:  moment of glory came when holding off 19 rivals to take this race off a mark of 80 last season.  Looked unlucky on return this year, and missed the break at Musselburgh latest which is a kiss of death there.  Back off his winning mark, and at a track which is as big a horses-for-horses venue as any in the country he may well repeat last year’s success.

Annaf, (1530 Haydock), 20/1:  a tight race on ratings with barely a few pounds surrounding the lot.  That tees up the prospect of an upset.  Annaf’s rating has in fairness been earned mostly running 6f on the all weather, but he still looked in fine fettle when unlucky in running at York last time.  Will need to have his skates on at this trip, but looks far too overpriced for the second best horse on ratings.  Rogue Equilateral was tempting, but he could find a way to lose a walkover even at his best.

Zainalarab,  (1645 Haydock), 9/2:   Just the kind of profile to look for at this stage of the season.  Looked full of promise early in his debut season last year, but couldn’t hold that form and flopped on his last two runs.  Now refreshed and a year older he can either pick up the promise or continue the flop.  It could go either way, but so often the break and refresh resets the clock and he looks value to regain the winning habit.
