The PGA Tour heads to the famed Muirfield Village in Ohio for the Memorial Tournament this week, another of the tour’s important another ‘designated’ events.
Scottie Scheffler is the favorite for this week’s event, but he has looked out of sorts with the flat stick over the last three/four weeks and we’re prepared to give him a miss at his short price.
Instead, we’re going to side with Jon Rahm. The Spaniard loves this course, having won here in 2020 and would surely have done so again a year later when Covid struck with him six shots clear after three sublime rounds in the 60s.
It’s true he disappointed at the U.S. PGA Championship a couple of weeks ago, but he has rested since then and it was only last month that he won the Masters, becoming a major champion for the first time.
In Europe, the North Course at Green Eagle in Hamburg, Germany hosts the European Open.
This is a drivers’ course with six par-fives on offer, and that means Mike Lorenzo-Vera springs to mind. The Frenchman has ranked 5th and 10th in his past two starts in shots gained off the tee, and has posted three top-12 finishes in his last four starts.
Recommendations:
Memorial: Rahm to win, 1 pt, at 15/2, SkyBet
European Open: Lorenzo-Vera 0.5 pts each way at 50/1, 1/5 the odds for the first 7 places, Paddy Power
