The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Caius Chorister, (1500 Haydock), 2pts win, 9/2:
Useful filly who has been mostly knocking on the door all season. Ran an eye catcher in the Ebor last time when running on for 6th having been done no favours when the race started to develop. That suggested the switch up from 12f could be the key to finally landing a big handicap and she can have no better colleague that Jamie Spencer in that endeavour.
Hickory, (1435 Ascot), 6/1: Bless Him and Hayley Turner would be an irresistible combination were we not about to actually resist them. In a race full of old stagers it might be wisest to back the relatively unexposed Hickory who beat most of them when runner up in a a big race here in July on only his fourth turf start and continues to have the assistance of in form jockey Saffie Osborne. Cue him getting nutted on the line by Bless Him…
Naqeeb , (1425 Haydock), 5/2: close between Denmark and Lordship on their runs behind Middle Earth at York. That winner had previously edged out Naqeeb. On that form Naqeeb can have the edge here provided his improvement since that race is equivalent to Middle Earth’s. That seems a reasonable conclusion as that was only Naqeeb’s 3rd run and an impressive Kempton win since suggests that improvement is being unlocked.
Shaquille, (1535 Haydock), 11/8: We don’t often dip into this price bracket, but value is value and this outstanding sprinter can only be odds against because of doubts about his slow starts – even though all his wins have come after slow starts. This quick track will stress that, but he has usually overcome his stalls tardiness by halfway anyway. Banker.
