Friday Yankee: Lucky Lucas looks likely…

It’s the start of Ayr’s Scottish National meeting that has us fired up for a tartan Yankee…

The Daily Yankee:

Our Lucas, (1440 Ayr), 13/2:  Took a few runs to find his feet after transferring from Ireland but on a roll now with wins here and at Carlisle.  The better ground seemed to help him last time and he gets masses of weight from some of the representatives of big Southern yards. Brian Hughes on top is always a plus.

Theinval, (1545 Ayr), 11/4:  Has followed the same route as last year when runner up in this after festival runs of 3rd and 2nd respectively at Cheltenham and Aintree.  This year it was 4th and 2nd at the festivals, and off a 4lb lower mark here he should finally register the win that sequence deserves.

Drinks Interval, (1645 Ayr), 8/1:  Has only contested two handicaps, falling when looking likely to win at Wincanton off 122, then when a close 3rd last week at Kempton off today’s mark of 120.  That was a good effort on her first run in 4 months, and the Tizzard stable are in flying late season form.  Favourite Lamanver Odyssey may have something to prove on quicker ground.

Bob Mahler, (1715 Ayr), 8/1:  Definitely  a horse with a mind of his own.  Has the ability to have run the classy novice Chef Des Obeaux very close, yet when dropped in classs last time nearly threw away the win by pulling himself up.  Jockey Richard Johnson should be alive to his quirks now, and on this better surface and first time in a handicap he looks worth the punt.
