The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Harvest Day, (1430 Beverley), 1pt win, 11/2:
This filly looked progressive on the all weather this winter, but had been 5 months off before reverting to turf here at the start of the month. Drawn badly she made good late progress for third. Much better berthed here and should strip a bit fitter.
Mackaar, (1910 Newbury), 5/1: gets a useful weight for age allowance and is interesting stepping up to this trip. Ran ok in the Epsom Derby trial, but then bombed out here in a very valuable handicap. This smaller field and longer trip could help. Infrastructure is all the rage but looks over-backed for a horse with one win in eight runs.
Keeper’s Choice, (2015 Newbury), 6/1: This mare didn’t start until a 3yo and has 3 wins in 14 runs. Ran with promise when third on reappearance here over a longer trip and the booking of Oisin Murphy catches the eye. Favourite Eligible is an unexposed 3yo making handicap debut, but a mark of 75 is no gift and the value of his recent third has had mixed support since.
Rose Hip, (2045 Newbury), 4/1: represents the in form Tony Carroll yard. Made a fluent success on handicap debut, the second home won earlier this week, and in that context a 5lb rise looks very fair. Only had the four runs so entitled to improve further.
