Saturday Yankee: Ready to take the Falls…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Wentworth Falls, (1425 Doncaster), 2pts win, 14/1:

We were very tempted by race specialist A Momentofmadness but the absence of regular pilot Buick could be crucial as could the spoiling presence of fellow blaster Ornate. They should set things up nicely for blog bogey horse Arecibo, but he is so hard to win with. Instead, and I am sure we’ll regret this, we’ll move on to another blog favourite in Wentworth Falls. He will need a lifetime best and is significantly worse off with the other pair despite finishing behind them in last year’s race. That said he was desperately unlucky that day when held up before finishing like the wind for fifth and would surely have been an impressive winner with some luck, and has at least shown he can still win when landing our nap here earlier in the season. Loves the course, needs a blistering pace, and is nicely drawn in the middle. God help the cat when Arecibo wins, but we’ll be backing Wentworth.

La Trinidad, (1315 Doncaster), 11/2:  got an almighty weight hike for romping to victory here and that has looked to be an anchor in subsequent runs until a much better show at York last time.  Finished third there to the very progressive Brunch and arguably could have done much better with a clearer run.  This looks a weaker race and a repeat effort could be enough.

Limato, (1500), 11/4:   Veteran who ran away with this race 5 years ago in his only prior run at the track.  Tempting to write him down with age, but he looked at least as good as ever when sauntering to an easy win at Newmarket last time.  These conditions are ideal and he can bookend his long career with wins in this event.

Pyledriver, (1535 Doncaster), 10/3:  Has defied relatively cheap breeding with a string of improving gutsy efforts. Only disappointment came in the weird chambers of Epsom. Probably showed more class than ever when a really impressive winner at York latest and looks sure to stay.
