Saturday Yankee: Victory for King…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  On To Victory,  (1515 Doncaster), 2pts win, 9/1:

The final big handicap of the season and invariably a soft ground slog.  Alan King may be better known for training Cheltenham winners but he can land some useful flat prizes as well.  On To Victory has run with great credit in three outings this season, all on decent ground.  His three lifetime wins are two on soft and one on good-to-soft, so the deeper ground here may be all he needs to convert those good runs into a win.  Jockey James Doyle is an excellent booking.

Moll’s Memory, (1255 Doncaster), 11/2:  useful mare who was in good form last Autumn.  Took a couple of runs to find her best form this season but came good on soft ground like today’s when a narrow winner at Newbury.  Only up 3lbs for that, but it was a typically canny ride from Spencer that day and she can defy that rise under the same pilot today.

Golan Fortune, (1330 Aintree), 15/2:  has looked decent at times.  Had a low key run at Cheltenham’s October meeting in 2017 before winning well next time, and after a year out with injury followed the exact same pattern again in 2019.  Again took in the October meeting on reappearance this year and arguably topped previous efforts there as although 9th over a shorter trip, he ran with conspicuous promise.  History suggests this will be the time to catch him at his best.

With Respect, (1545 Doncaster), 13/2:  the last race of the turf flat season, and given the season he has had it would be fitting if apprentice star Ray Dawson landed the prize.  He looks an eye-catching booking for trainer Hughie Morrison on a horse who loves deep ground and showed signs of life last time after a low key campaign.
