Friday Yankee: How to come first…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Howling Milan, (1535 Newbury), 1pt win, 4/1:

A useful looking handicap but probably no better than the one Howling Milan finished second in here last time.  The front three pulled nicely clear that day and whilst he got a 4lb rise for that, that only takes effect tomorrow so he sneaks in here off his unadjusted old mark.  Has a great chance in any regard, but the 4lb well in only boosts his claims.

Everything For You, (1610 Newbury), 12/1:  this could be an interesting race with the ground quickening up.  That could suit a few of these but at the odds Everything For You makes plenty of appeal.  Rated a pretty high 90 on the flat he has struggled on soft ground over hurdles and gets a basement mark as a result.  A recent second in a jumpers’ bumper showed the flame still burns, and finally getting some decent ground may be the ideal time to catch him.

Thelongwayaround, (1630 Doncaster), 9/1: very lightly raced for his age and has obviously has some problems along the way.  Didn’t show much after another layoff when returning over hurdles, but has jumped fences well in the past and everything about his breeding and his form on the track suggests this faster surface should be much more to his liking.  Might be value in a poor contest.

Always Resolute, (1705 Doncaster), 6/1:  two potentially well handicapped veterans here with both Kloud Gate and Always Resolute way below historic winning marks and both getting the sound surface they love after toiling in winter mud.  Kloud Gate is fractionally the better in on old ratings, but Always Resolute has shown the most recent form having won on the flat last summer.  We just favour Always Resolute as the more likely to spark back given the stable’s good form and his rider’s useful claim.
