Tuesday Yankee: Benny and the bets…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Big Chief Benny, (1555 Wetherby), 1pt win, 11/2:
Very lightly raced for a 10yo having had a couple of long injury lay-offs.  Was a 130+ hurdler back in the day with a preference for good ground.  The passage of time and some modest chasing efforts see him here off just 110, finally with a decent surface again, and for a stable hitting a 20% strike rate, he looks decent value against two at the head of the market who can at best be described as quirky.

Wisecracker, (1330 Huntingdon), 13/2:  not the easiest horse to win with by any means, but has had a little break to avoid the mid and now gets his ground.  Ran well on reappearance last Summer and goes well for Bryony Frost.  Was finally dropped a valuable 2lbs after his last run, making this his lowest rating for eight runs and he might make it tell on a track that promises to suit.

Grouseman, (1525 Wetherby), 6/1:  juvenile hurdler steps into open handicap company with the benefit of 7lb weight for age and a 3lb jockey claim.  Was rated 118 after a good second in a good ground Catterick maiden, but has been dropped to 114 after a soft ground second at Fakenham.  This ground will be much more like Catterick and if can run to 118 with his claims, he should be hard to beat.

Month’s Medic, (1645 Taunton),  5/1: Trainer Paul Nicholls can’t have too many rated as low as this guy’s 105, but it says much for the quality of this event that he carries top weight.  Is surely better than that mark now stepped up in trip and taking on a race heavy on veterans and low on potential.
