Premier League: Virgil set to soar…

The Premier League weekend ends with a mouth-watering clash, Liverpool versus Manchester United at Anfield.

The hosts are strong favourites for today’s clash. They have won each of their 11 home matches in all competitions this season, scoring 35 goals and conceding seven, while United come into the game having crashed out of the Champions League with a 1-0 loss at home to Bayern Munich on Tuesday. That came only three days after a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

United were picked apart by Bournemouth as they attempted to press, and this resulted in a much more cautious outlook against the German champions, barely landing a blow even while needing to win to stay alive in Europe.

With last year’s 7-0 thrashing still fresh in the memory, United are likely to adopt a similarly negative stance at Anfield, dropping deep and hoping to hit on the break.

This means Liverpool are likely to have a lot of possession, pressing United deep into their half. This could result in a number of corners, which may be dangerous for the visitors, especially with a number of defensive injuries, including the aerially proficient Harry Maguire.

Virgil van Dijk‘s last two headed goals were scored at Anfield, and we think the 16/1 on offer that the giant central defender nets a header this afternoon is too tempting to leave alone.

Recommendation:

Van Dijk (Liverpool) to score a header, 1 pt, at 16/1, SkyBet
