Monday Racing: Kempton at the Double

Ah, from the furnace of the Cheltenham Gold Cup to a not-so-manic Monday at the synthetic sands of a chilly west London. However. a typically quiet Kempton Park card offers some interesting tactical options.

The 15:00 race offers a certainty of strong pace courtesy of confirmed front runner, Magic Mirror, and this could suit horses who like to be held up.

One such horse who has looked in need of a strong gallop is Quintus Cerialis.  This horse was competing here a year ago off a 25lb higher mark.  There was a loss of form to prompt that fall, but he has been showing more of late and can benefit from the featherweight and the race tactics.

The 17:00 race offers a similar pace bias with the help of trail-blazer Giantstepsahead.  This can help course and distance winner Safira Menina.  This mare’s November win came by swooping from off a fast pace.  She is just 4lb higher and hasn’t had that strong pace since.  Claimer Milly Naseb takes off a useful 7lb and this race looks ideal.

Recommendation:  Quintus Cerialis (15:00 Kempton), 9/1 generally available  &  Safira Menina (17:00 Kempton), 8/1 generally available
