Monday Races: Hail Caesar …

A soggy Brighton offers the only flat racing in the UK today, and it looks a day for market leaders.

Favourites could go right through the card  (c1500/1 for those who like a risk!!), and that action will start in the sprint handicap that opens the card (1425 BST).

We have been sweet on Flowing Clarets but she has been a repeated non- runner when we have picked her.  She has a chance today, but on form at Lingfield two runs back she must be held by Monteamiata. Ed Walker’s lightly raced 3yo should enjoy the return to softer ground after a decent run last time.

She is just 3lbs higher than when a cosy winner of that Lingfield race and that does not look enough to stop her winning here.

Just an hour later, Black Caesar looks to follow up a runaway victory at this track last week.  He has to carry a 6lb penalty but that is nowhere near enough to stop a follow-up given the margin of that victory.

His six lifetime wins include four with ground on the soft side, and four at this track – so everything points to a repeat win.

Doubling the two offers a fair return.

Recommendation: Monteamiata (1425 Brighton) & Black Caesar (1525 Brighton), 1pt win double, approx 13/2.
