European Golf: Lucky Li

The European Tour heads to Asia this week, with the Topwin Golf & Country club hosting the Volvo China Open.

We at Lap of the Odds think the conditions in these Asian tournaments are very different to what the majority of the European Tour members are used to. Thus we like to side with players who are either from the region or have proved their liking to the conditions previously.

With this in mind we had lined up Frenchman Alex Levy, the defending champion, for this tournament. With the Ryder Cup in Paris in September, we’ve been keen on French players playing well this year, and Levy is the leading candidate.

So it was with some annoyance that we saw him stroll home in Morocco last weekend, destroying his price for this week’s tournament. We won’t put anyone off backing Levy, but we can’t at his odds.

Instead we’re going to back local star Haotong Li. He won here in 2016 and finished 11th last year, and importantly offers a few points more with his odds.

Recommendation: Hasting Li to win, 1 pt, at 16/1, Ladbrokes
