Friday Yankee: Prince Of York…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  UAE Prince, (1440 York), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available

A typical York handicap big on numbers, but surely Roger Varian’s runner has this at his mercy if producing his best.  Looked at his best when a cracking 5th in the Cambridgeshire last time.  Was an excellent 4th in the Magnet Cup here last year, although disappointed in his other run here as favourite, an indication that he can’t always be trusted.  That said he looks a fair price and should deliver.

Rock Eagle, (1610 Newmarket), 7/2:  Has has a very light campaign but showed on handicap debut that he has a ton of promise.  That was a very valuable Goodwood race in which he stayed on for a never nearer fourth.  This more conventional track should help and the stable is in flying form.

Holmeswood, (1625 York), 5/1:  has been running consistently well in good handicaps lately without getting much luck.  Often gives of his best here, has been leniently treated for recent runs and can deny younger stablemate Camacho Chief.

Dalton, (1735 York), 6/1:  This is a rerun of the Ayr Bronze Cup albeit on a quicker surface.  Best home that day Royal Residence must have a chance, but we thought Dalton travelled like the best horse in the race.  He may not have had the best of the draw then and didn’t quite deliver as much as looked likely on the heavy ground.  Back on a better surface and on a speedy track he can go very well.
