Thursday Yankee: Get Grumpy…

A nice winning nap for Manshood (4/1) yesterday, completing a little Newcastle double at the tail end of our daily yankee.  With lots of rain around we’ll stick to the all weather for today’s yankee.

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Call Me Grumpy, (1945 Chelmsford), 1pt win, 6/1 generally available

Roger Varian has one of the strongest yards in Newmarket and is a shrewd placer of his horses.  He brought this guy back from a long break to win on debut last year, the first of five highly creditable efforts.  Another year break has ensued, and whilst that must be injury rather than design, it is significant that such a big yard have kept the horse and see fit to bring him back so late in the year.  He is bred to go well on this surface, can win first time out, is well drawn, has a great jockey, and may just have the class to dismiss this bunch.

Lothario, (1830 Kempton), 3/1:  Very lightly raced but showed great promise here last time when very badly drawn but still a gallant second.  Jockey Robert Winston is again wider than ideal, but this is more manageable, and a likely strong pace can see Lothario pick them off up the straight.

Billy Star, (1930 Kempton), 6/1:  money coming early for this lightly raced soft who showed some first form when a running on fourth here over a mile last time.  He is bred to be a staying type, so this huge step up to 12f could see improvement.  A big gamble in the offing.

Woosh, (2000 Kempton), 9/1:  a running on seventh stepped up to 10f on handicap debut last time.  Bred by Nathanial, she should really enjoy this step up to 12f.  Is likely to be much better than a mark of 48 in the long run, but she may be ready to show that straight away here.
