Thursday Yankee: Lew can do it…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Vinnie Lewis, (1410 Chepstow), 1pt win, 8/1 generally available

This long distance hurdle should be a right slog.  Truckers Lodge is a hot favourite and won easily here last time, but an added 13lbs is a proper stopper.  We prefer Virginia Chick, but he might struggle to contain Vinnie Lewis.  He is 11lbs lower over hurdles than chasing.  Trainer Harry Whittington will have long distance chase exploits in mind, but for now he can exploit his favourable hurdles mark in likely highly suitable conditions.

Tudor City, (1420 Leopardstown), 5/1:  Trainer Tony Martin had a quiet year last season, but that leaves his horses on good marks.  This guy has mostly stayed on the flat, but his one hurdles run last season was a cracker at this track.  He returned to hurdles with an outstanding effort at Fairyhouse recently, and raised just 4lbs he can win today.

Final Nudge, (1450 Chepstow), 16/1:  the Welsh National is a law unto itself and hence promotes the return of old favourites.  With due respect to Raz de Maree and Vintage Clouds, both of whom can run well off their higher marks, of last year’s main protagonists it has to be Final Nudge who is more than a stone better off.  The booking of Sam TD looks a good one.

Solomn Grundy, (1500 Leopardstown), 10/1:  There is no doubt that favourite De Name Escapes Me must have a great chance after a smooth win last time.  But by extension, Solomn Grundy must have huge prospects being 14lbs better off with the favourite for finishing runner up to him.  That was his debut for De Bromhead and any improvement can only add to the compelling maths.
