Monday Races: A rogues gallery

Typical end of season flat fare today from the traditional Monday pairing of Windsor and Pontefract.

We’ll head north to Ponty’s closing sprint handicap (1720 BST) where we are faced with a choice between some old characters familiar to this blog.

On recent course form there should be little between Van Gerwin and the two blog rogues Muatadel and Gamesome.  All three contested a blanket finish in a rough race here.

Van Gerwin finished best of the three that day.  He does like this course although that effort last time was his first glimpse of form all season and the question remains whether it can be repeated.

Gamesome was next best.  This horse flatters to deceive and has led us down the garden path all summer.  It will be excruciating to watch him win, which should be a tip in itself, but our patience has finally run out.

The other blog regular is Muatadel.  He has recorded one win and numerous placed efforts for us.  He is beginning to look just in the handicapper’s grip with a series of placed efforts.

These conditions though suit him well, and he is certainly reliable, and the odds are just good enough to tempt us back in.  There isn’t much margin for error, but everything should be in his favour and he may be able to play within those narrow margins.

Recommendation; Muatadel, (1720 Pontefract), 1pt win, 6/1 generally available
