Premier League: Sterling to lead City onward…

There are three games in the Premier League to whet the appetite today, with the majority of the action focused around the top of the table.

First out of the blocks is the game between Leicester and Arsenal. The Gunners have had a bad week, losing in pretty tepid fashion to both Crystal Palace and Wolves. That said, Leicester have only beaten Arsenal once in the last 24 league meetings.

We find the game too tricky to call, but think Arsenal have more to play for. This may not translate into a win, as they can defend really badly at times, but it could create tension. We note Arsenal defender Skhodran Mustafi has been included in the side for today’s game. He may well have difficulty matching Jamie Vardy for pace and we think the 3/1 on offer that he sees yellow offers value. We’ll try that.

The second game sees defending champions Manchester City traveling the short distance to take on Burnley. City need to win again to overtake Liverpool at the top of the table after the Reds’ victory on Friday.

There’s been a lot of talk about Burnley potentially offering more resistance than City’s cross-Manchester rival did midweek. However, the truth is that this City team is streets ahead of the likes of Burnley, as shown by the fact they have beaten the hosts 5-0 twice already this season.

City will win again, making it 12 Premier League wins on the trot, and we’ll bank on their player of the year – Raheem Sterling – doing the bulk of the damage. We’ll take the 9/2 on offer that he scores at least two goals.

The day’s finale sees Manchester United hosting Chelsea. These two teams are battling for a potential Champions League spot, but both have shown real inconsistencies throughout the season.

United went through a strong spell after Jose Mourinho was sacked as manager, but have now lost seven of their last nine competitive fixtures, including surrendering tamely to City midweek.

Chelsea have been strong at home but have a dreadful record away from Stamford Bridge, particularly against the other established top six teams.

It’s difficult to call the game, but one thing is certain – both teams have quick and tricky wingers. With this in mind, we’re going to take the 3/1 on offer that there is a penalty awarded during the game.
