Saturday Yankee: Power packing punch…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Boss Power, (1405 Newmarket), 2pts win, 5/2:

A good middle distance 3yo handicap but with the Stoute stable starting to hit stride the race could be rendered academic if bottom weight Boss Power builds on his recent handicap debut success.  The son of Frankel somehow got a rating of 71 for that and showed that to be all wrong with a taking success that suggests he has been vastly underestimated.  A rise to 78 is unlikely to be nearly enough to put the brakes on and another impressive success beckons.

Overwrite, (1425 Newbury), 10/1: a typically busy but progressive Mark Johnston trained 3yo. Seems to be at his best when dominating over around a mile as when a good 6th at Royal Ascot and a winner at Windsor. Nearly lasted home over 9f at Goodwood when kicking 5l clear at this distance, and it could be worth overlooking a disappointing effort when taken on for the lead over 10f last time. Back at 8f and with no obvious pace challenge he could be hard to catch if given a free reign.

Kentucky Hardboot, (1450 Doncaster), 12/1: moved from Channon to Moubarak from 2yo to 3yo and seems to have come on a ton. Came from a long way back to ultimately win cosily at Yarmouth on his return, and may have overdone the waiting tactics a fraction here last time when second, albeit well beaten by an in form rival. That was still a fair effort and the bigger field and stronger pace here should be more suitable. Runs off the same mark of 63, and worth noting that a half length behind him in third last time was Ventura Rascal who has won two since, and is favourite here despite being 7lbs worse off with Kentucky.

Orvar, (1635 Doncaster), 9/2: has won this race for the last two years and absolutely loves this track. Was a rare 3pt nap for us when winning last year. We’re not steaming in quite so hard this time as this is a more competitive race, but he is off the same mark as that decisive win, and although mostly well beaten this season, the one spark of form cam in his only run here when a good third. Will have been trained with this in mind, goes on any ground, has a great jockey booking, and maybe he is worth a bit of a plunge…
