Premier League: The Anfield Mane Score Massacre…

Today’s Premier League program looks set to survive to big freeze, although players taking the field in gloves may hit a new record!

The first game out is the clash between Burnley and Everton at Turf Moor. The away form of the visitors has been particularly poor – they have won just one game in their last 22 away league fixtures, scoring just nine goals away from home all season. This is a record that must rankle with their manager Sam Allardyce.

That said, Burnley aren’t pulling up trees either. They haven’t won in 11 Premier League games, and also in their last five home matches.

We expect Allardyce to set his stall out to make things difficult for Burnley, and will take the 2/1 on offer for a draw.

The second televised game sees Liverpool entertain Newcastle at Anfield.

This game has traditionally been full of goals, although the visitors have rarely been on the positive side of the result. Who can forget the 4-3 classic in 1996 that saw Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan slumped over the advertising hoardings, or the game the following season that ended with the same score.

Newcastle managed to come from behind to draw this fixture 2-2 last season, but we think they will struggle to contain a rampant Liverpool side today. The Reds are the division’s form team with 22 points from the last nine games.

Much of the focus this season, with good reason, has been on Mo Salah. The Egyptian star has scored 23 times in the league, and in six successive games in all competitions. However, his strike partner Sadio Mane has recently hit some form, scoring four times in his last two games. He is a massive 9/1 with Betfair to score twice today, and we’ll be on that.

Recommendations:

Burnley/Everton: Draw, 1 pt, at 2/1, widely available

Liverpool/Newcastle: Mane to score twice, 1 pt, at 9/1, Betfair
